Honours shared in thrilling All Stars finish

Man of the moment Latrell Mitchell stepped up to the plate when it counted to drag the Indigenous All Stars back from the brink to salvage a 10-all draw with the Maori All Stars in Townsville on Saturday night.

With the Indigenous side trailing 10-2 and down a man with Tyrone Peachey in the bin, Mitchell delivered a classy grubber kick for an Alex Johnston try in the 64th minute that breathed life into the game.

Mitchell then levelled the scores with a goal in the 80th minute after James Fisher-Harris jumped out of the defensive line too early to concede a penalty on his own tryline as the Indigenous outfit were pushing for an unlikely win.

While Fisher-Harris' indiscretion allowed the Indigenous side to snatch a draw, his efforts leading the way up front didn't go unrecognised as he was awarded the Preston Campbell Medal as man of the match.

The Indigenous side had 56 seconds of play after the re-start to try to get within range of a field goal, but Mitchell opted against taking a 'Hail Mary' attempt from inside his own half as the final siren sounded.
