The Canberra Raiders and George Williams have agreed to terms on the homesick halfback's release. It's believed Williams will receive two months' pay, which would be about $100,000 if his reported $600,000 contract was correct. Williams asked for a release at the end of the 2021 NRL season so he could return home one year before the end of his three-year contract. He and his pregnant partner struggled to deal with the separation from family and friends. The coronavirus pandemic meant they were unable to return home or have visitors since arriving in Canberra at the beginning of 2020.
