Bottom LineIt has been a tough past month for both the Raiders and the Knights after showing promising signs early in the season. It has been a big week for the Green Machine, with the Canberra troops expected to rally hard in this must-win clash. Newcastle are also in a similar position, and with both side’s motivation at a season high, expect a blockbuster battle on Saturday.
The Raiders have re-shuffled their squad with Dane Tilse coming into the starting 13 for Queensland prop David Shillington. Matt McIlwrick has also moved onto the bench in place of Shaun Berrigan who is out with a bicep injury. The big news is that Josh Dugan has kept his place at five-eighth as he looks to get some better conditions to utilise his ball-running skills at Hunter Stadium.
The Knights will be without stars Akuila Uate and Darius Boyd through Origin duty, with Peter Mata’utia and Kevin Naiqama getting a chance to pull on a starting jersey. Timana Tahu also returns to the side joined by new recruit Dane Gagai in the centres to round out a new look backline combination.
This match is certainly the hardest to pick of Round 14 with both sides capable of scoring plenty of points on their day. Defence is the key for both squads, who have leaked +30 per game in the past month - look for the Raiders to turn it around and clinch it in a tight one.
