Raiders wrap up 2011 McDonald’s School Holiday Clinic

The Canberra Raiders and proud supporter of junior rugby league McDonald’s restaurants in the ACT, Queanbeyan, and Yass have concluded their three day July School Holiday Clinic for 2011.

Around 120 children converged on Northbourne Oval each of the three days to join the camp.

Raider’s halfback and clinic organiser Sam Williams was delighted with the way the camp had finished and thanked all of the children who attended.

Williams said it was great to have the Raiders NRL squad attend the final day, as well as a special visitor.

“The children have really enjoyed the clinic this year and the highlight came today when the rest of the NRL squad came along and helped with skills and played games with the children who attended,” Williams said. “It was also great to have Ronald McDonald come along today and get involved and he looked quick as well.”

Williams in conjunction with the Raiders, McDonald’s and Coca-Cola tailored the three day clinic to give children in the region the chance to learn the skills of rugby league, in a fun and safe environment.

Hani Sidaros, McDonald’s ACT Licensee, is proud to be involved with the clinics this year and continue to support junior rugby league in the ACT and surrounding regions.
“McDonald’s restaurants in the ACT, Queanbeyan and Yass region are passionate about supporting grassroots rugby league and the Canberra Raiders. It’s always great to see kids enjoying themselves outdoors and learning new skills while meeting new friends in the school holidays,” said Hani.

All participants in the clinic were provided lunch and a T-Shirt courtesy of McDonald’s, a bag and footy thanks to the Raiders, a hat thanks to Powerade and drinks from Coca-Cola.

Raiders prop Dane Tilse was a big hit amongst the children and said he enjoyed getting out into the community and teaching the sport of Rugby League.

“We’ve got a lot of great support here in Canberra and almost every second kid here today had a Raiders jersey on which is great to see,” Tilse said. “We’ve enjoyed coming out for a run around and hopefully we can do more of this in the future.”
