Sea Eagles swoop on young Raiders star for three years

Emerging Canberra Raiders star Michael Chee Kam says he would have been crazy to turn down the security of a three-year deal with the Manly Sea Eagles.

The Raiders offered the 20-year-old second-rower/centre a deal until the end of 2014, but he rejected it in favour of greater first-grade opportunities and an extra 12 months at Sydney's northern beaches.

Chee Kam burst on to the Sea Eagles' radar with a string of impressive performances in the Toyota Cup, none moreso than when he scored a hat-trick in the Raiders' victory against the Brisbane Broncos last month.

This really sucks. Chee Kam is a star but man at his age a 3 year deal can you really blame him? Wonder what the dosh is like the bloody silvertails have forked out apparently Don was blown away when he saw the deal they gave him and our offer was good according to him. Guess with the amount of great kids we have now though its too hard to keep em all. Just make sure we sign up Wighton, Cornish, Uiti and Boyd as the main ones, big Edrick too he is a weapon down the sideline love watching him streak away.

Hate it when lose a Toyota Cup player like this but what can you do? We cant keep them all like you said GB... its about keeping the right ones and I guess we tried to keep him but they just gave him a better deal. Not much we can do about that we cant be forking out thousands and thousands just to outbid another club for one player. If it was Dugan then that is a little different but for a u20s player while he may be a great prospect it's just not as safe as an investment. Big loss but we have plently more great juniors where he came from.
