Minichiello elbow may end his season
20 August 2012, 2:58 pm

Map: Australia   The Roosters' Anthony Minichiello's season appears over after he was charged with striking Canberra full-back Josh Dugan.

Minichiello was sent off after it appeared his flying elbow cut open Dugan's head late in the Roosters' 24-20 loss to the Raiders at Canberra Stadium last Saturday night.

With just two games in the Roosters' season remaining the former representative full-back has been charged with a level three striking offence.

He'll be suspended for two weeks if takes the early guilty plea and three if he fights the charge unsuccessfully.

He would have faced longer on the sidelines if it were not for his good record.

Minichiello's initial clumsy leap failed to stop Dugan's progress, but with his second effort he caught the Canberra player in the head with his elbow, giving Dugan a black eye and bloodied cheek.

The Roosters are in 14th spot on the ladder and well out of finals contention.

Melbourne Storm's Bryan Norrie has been charged with a level one dangerous contact offence, but with an early plea he will earn 90 carry-over points and escape suspension.
