Scholars to rest stars as major semi looms large

BELCONNEN United Scholars coach John Hawke admits he's prepared to rest players and risk losing the Canberra Raiders Cup minor premiership to ensure his team is fit for the major semi-final.

Hawke said he would sit out several stars with niggling injuries in today's match against the fourth-placed Queanbeyan Blues at Seiffert Oval, declaring the Scholars were already focused on being in top condition for the grand final qualifier in three weeks.

With one round remaining next weekend, it's already locked in that the Scholars will play the major semi-final against the two-time defending champion Queanbeyan Kangaroos, who went one point ahead on top of the ladder with a 34-10 win over the Tuggeranong Bushrangers yesterday.

Yass Magpies will finish third after defeating Woden Valley Rams 48-22 yesterday, while the Blues, Gungahlin Bulls and Rams are still alive in the finals race.
