Miller: Canberra are the Benchmark of the Competition

Payten's experience a blessing says Miller

Wests Tigers Half-back Jacob Miller says the experience of Coach Todd Payten has proven invaluable in the countdown to Sunday’s Grand Final.

In what is shaping up to be a thrilling season decider, the third placed Canberra Raiders tackle the fourth placed Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium at 2pm. Wests Tigers have beaten Canberra on both occasions this season.

Miller says his team-mates have enjoyed playing under the 2005 Wests Tigers premiership winning prop.

“To get to a Grand Final in your first year of coaching in the NYC is a remarkable achievement that Todd can be very proud of,’’ Miller said.

“He is highly respected by all of the boys. The experience he brings to the side is invaluable, particularly as we prepare for the Grand Final.

“We would love to finish the season off with a premiership victory not only for us but for Toddy. He knows what is required to win a Grand Final.

“Todd has been passing down his experience on how to prepare for the game. It certainly has been useful.”

Miller and winger Marika Koroibete are the only two players in the Wests Tigers side to have NRL experience.

The talented Miller has captained the side well throughout the season while the flying Koroibete goes into the match on the back of a hat-trick of tries last weekend.

“It should be a great game. Canberra are the benchmark of the competition. They are the best attacking side and we are one of the best defensive sides,’’ Miller said.

“Our forwards have been leading the way all season but for us to win on Sunday, everyone has to step up again and play to their potential.”
