Legend tips Berrigan to save the day

Former skipper Alan Tongue has anointed Shaun Berrigan as the Canberra Raiders' playmaking saviour should halfback Sam Williams fail to prove his fitness for Sunday's final round clash with New Zealand.

Williams will have scans today on a shoulder injury he suffered in the Raiders' 34-6 win over competition leader Canterbury on Friday night.

Raiders coach David Furner thrust fullback Josh Dugan into the halves when he sent Williams back to NSW Cup to find some form mid-season. But given the importance of the match, Tongue insists 34-year-old Berrigan's experience makes him the best option to fill Williams's shoes.

Canberra has won its past four matches, and needs only to beat the Warriors in Auckland to secure a finals berth.
