Raiders visit Cooma

THE Cooma District will receive a huge boost for rugby league to kick off the 2013 season with members of the NRL's Canberra Raiders visiting the region on February 21 and 22 as part of the NRL's One Communities Community Carnival.

The Canberra Raiders players will have a very busy three days with visits scheduled in schools across the southern part of the Far South Coast as well as the Bombala and Cooma districts.

As part of the NRL's One Community Program the Raiders will be delivering an "anti-bullying message" at the school visits. "In recent years we have delivered the Eat Well, Play Well, Stay Well and then Dream, Believe, Achieve messages and now a very relevant topic in anti-bullying," NRL Regional Development Manager, Matt Schubert said.

"We are very aware of the hard work a number of people are putting into Rugby League in the area and hopefully this will be also help in raising the games profile.'" Schubert said.

"With both the Cooma clubs holding some events whilst the players are in town prior to club registration the timing is great"

NRL Game Development Officers Damian Kennedy from the F.S.C. - Monaro and Daniel York from the Canberra area, will be accompanying the players on their visits to the schools.

The Development Officers, along with the players and some staff will be conducting a clinic for the juniors at the Nijong Oval from 4-5pm on Thursday afternoon. All juniors are invited to attend.

A get together with players and officials will be held at the Cooma Ex-Services club that evening. Again members of the public are welcome to attend.
