Raiders raise over $10,000 for MovemberThe Canberra Raiders are fresh faced once again today, after the razors came out before training this morning to signify the end of Movember.
The Raiders entire NRL squad took part in the annual Moustache growing campaign to raise money and awareness for Men’s Health, raising an incredible $10,262 as of December 1.
Five-eighth Terry Campese led the charge raising $1,548, while he was joined in the top five money raisers for the Raiders by David Thom (Raiders Board Member $803), Tom Learoyd-Lahrs ($673), David Furner ($643) and Dane Tilse ($593).
The Raiders held their own Movember party last night to celebrate the end of 30 days of facial hair, with awards given on the night for the Best and Worst Mo’s.
Shaun Fensom took out the honours for the team’s best effort to be named Man of Movember, while Sam Williams was voted the worst, winning the Miss Movember title for his lack of facial hair.
Jack Wighton was given some shaving cream and razors (probably his first ever) as he picked up the encouragement award, Justin Morgan was awarded some hair die for his blonde effort, while Mick Picker edged out Shaun Berrigan for funniest Mo with his Charlie Chaplin effort.
Raiders prop Dane Tilse has been the driving force behind the Raiders Movember campaign and said the whole team had been hugely supportive of the initiative.
“It’s been great for the guys and we’ve had a lot of fun and have raised a lot of money in the process,” Tilse said. “I know all the boys are very happy they can shave today because they’ve been some shocking efforts, but at the same time we’re all proud of sticking together as a team and raising this money.”
