Payten's past has no place in plan to punt his old team

Former Canberra player Todd Payten is plotting to bring down the Raiders in Sunday's under-20s grand final, but the rookie coach has criticised the manner in which Tim Sheens's messy departure has been handled.

The former prop won the 2005 premiership with the Wests Tigers under coach Sheens, and his acrimonious exit this week after a decade at the club has cut Payten deep.

''It's disappointing mate,'' Payten said of the Sheens issue.

''I think he could have got treated a lot better than he did by certain individuals, both administration and playing group. That's really all I want to comment on that.''
