Canberra look to link with rival clubs for fringe sessions
« on: June 19, 2020, 04:06:31 PM »
Canberra's fringe-first graders "will get their opportunity" to shine in the NRL as Raiders coach Ricky Stuart looks to keep his troops from completely emptying the tank with no bye rounds on the horizon. Each club will play 18 games straight before the finals this season, and Stuart is wary of managing workloads with the Raiders tipped to feature deep into October. It means the likes of halves Sam Williams, Matt Frawley and outside back Michael Oldfield could be drafted into the NRL side at some stage as they wait in the wings for their chance. Raiders football manager Matt Ford has been speaking with rival clubs about playing modified matches designed to give fringe NRL players much-needed game time. Penrith and Melbourne had organised a sevens match for their fringe players on Friday afternoon but Stuart would rather pit his reserves into a 10-a-side match at the very least.
