A MISSED conversion after the full-time hooter has taken the Queanbeyan Blues one step closer to the Canberra Raiders Cup finals.In one of the most dramatic finishes of the season, the Blues saw a commanding 20-point lead disappear as the Woden Valley Rams staged a courageous fightback, running in four tries in the final 25 minutes, the last with 45 seconds left on the clock.
That gave Nathan Smith the chance to secure a vital draw, with the conversion attempt only a few metres to the left of the upright.
But to the amazement of the pro-Rams crowd at Phillip Oval, himself, his teammates and the opposition, Smith hooked his kick to the left to hand the Blues a thrilling 24-22 victory yesterday.
