Old boys gather for season finale
More than 20 former players will be among the crowd for the Vodafone Warriors’ traditional old boys’ day being staged at the club’s final match of the season against Canberra at Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday (4.00pm kick-off; game day sponsor: Vodafone).
Among them are seven originals from the 1995 season led by the foundation captain Dean Bell, who ran out with the side to face Brisbane in the opening match on March 10 that year.
Joining Bell are Duane Mann, Tony Tatupu and Tea Ropati, who also faced the Broncos that night, while Joe Vagana, Logan Edwards and Stacey Jones will also be in attendance.
Apart from Jones and Vagana, other members of the 100-game club turning up will be Awen Guttenbeil, Logan Swann, Jerry Seuseu, Monty Betham and Wairangi Koopu plus greats Steve Price and Ruben Wiki.
The old boys will meet the 2012 Vodafone Warriors in the build-up to their clash against the Raiders and will be introduced to the crowd just before kick-off. They’ll also be on the field after the match for the official farewell to departing Vodafone Warriors Micheal Luck, Lewis Brown, James Maloney, Ukuma Ta’ai, Omar Slaimankhel and Ivan Penehe.
