Belconnen United Scholars (5) v Goulburn Workers Bulldogs (3) on Saturday at 3:00pm at Northbourne Oval
Goulburn has the opportunity to defeat both of last year’s Grand Finalists in consecutive weeks when they take on 2012 premiers the Belconnen Untied Scholars on Saturday.
The Bulldogs defeated last year’s runners up the Queanbeyan Kangaroos 28-12 in round four to mark their third victory in a row and reach third place on the competition ladder.
Belconnen United has started the season fairly slowly given their lofty standards as they readjust to life without 2012 Les McIntyre Medallist Brent Crisp.
Bobby Roberts has stepped into Crisp’s shoes at five-eighth and the youngster’s flawless goal kicking was the catalyst for last week’s 30-20 win over the in-form Bushrangers.
Both sides scored five tries apiece however it was Roberts’ ability to land five goals from as many attempts that sealed the victory for the Scholars.
The Scholars have started to find form and will be a good test for the Goulburn forwards as they face Canberra region representative forwards Tsai Tui, Channon McAskill and Aidan Greenwood.
