The Huawei Canberra Raiders have registered their first win of the 2013 Telstra Premiership season by disposing of the St George Illawarra Dragons tonight at Canberra Stadium, 30-17.
It was always going to be a big game for both teams with big Dane Tilse celebrating his 150th game in the lime green jersey and the Dragons looking for their first victory in the nation’s capital since the year 2000.
The Raiders ultimately won the day via their superior completion rate which allowed them to dictate the tempo of the game while the Green Machine’s strong defence frustrated the Dragons into poor attacking decisions.Centre Jarrod Croker and fullback Reece Robinson were mighty contributors to the victory scoring tries each with the latter also nailing five goals out of five.
After some tough opening exchanges, the visitors looked to have scored the first try of the contest through Brett Morris who crossed out on the left flank in the 6th minute; however, they were denied by the video referee who found an obstruction in the lead up.
