CRRL: 2017 Review: Queanbeyan Kangaroos

 The Queanbeyan Kangaroos enjoyed a strong year as they made the final in three of the four grades.

First Grade

Position:  2^nd

Win/Loss/Draw:  12 – 4- 0

Points For: 621

Points Against: 300

Boasting the best attack in the competition, the 2016 runners-up found themselves in yet another grand final after a dominant semi final performance against fierce rivals, the Queanbeyan Blues.

Having struggled to beat the Blues throughout the regular season, the Kangaroos stormed out to a 30-0 lead in the opening half hour to secure a memorable win.

However, in a tight grand final, the Kangaroos once again finished as runners-up as they lost to the Blues 13-6.

 

Reserve Grade

Position:  3^rd

Win/Loss/Draw:  10 – 6 – 0

Points For:  558

Points Against: 344

Having missed the finals in 2016, the Kangaroos were one match away from the grand final last season.

The Kangaroos showed their quality consistently throughout the season as they defeated eventual premiers West Belconnen in round nine and only lost to them narrowly in the final round of the regular season.

Having navigated their way past Yass in their semi final, the Kangaroos lost the preliminary final to the Warriors.

The Kangaroos boasted the second best attack but only the sixth best defence during the season.

Ladies League Tag

Position:  9^th

Win/Loss/Draw: 2 – 13 -1

Points For: 146

Points Against: 374

In their first season in the competition, the Queanbeyan Kangaroos started 2017 with a bang.

After losing their first match of the season, the Kangaroos drew with Gungahlin and defeated Bungendore and 2016 Premiers, Belconnen.

However, after claiming that memorable win, the Kangaroos struggled as they didn’t claim another win for the season.

Despite finishing ninth, the Kangaroos had the seventh best defence and eighth best attack.

 

18’s

Position:  1^st

Win/Loss/Draw:  15 – 1 - 0

Points For:  676

Points Against: 201

The Kangaroos were dominant throughout the regular season as they managed to win 14 consecutive games at the start of the season before losing to Woden in the second last round.

Although the Kangaroos claimed the minor premiership with ease, their finals campaign wasn’t ideal.

Having suffered another loss to Woden in their semi final, the Kangaroos were bundled out in straight sets as Goulburn claimed a memorable 24-6 win in the preliminary final.

The Kangaroos boasted the best attack and defence throughout the regular season.
