Canberra's Blake Ferguson will be ineligible for NRL duties for at least four weeks while he undertakes "an extensive alcohol management program".

The Raiders board has made the decision after he was formally charged with indecent assault on Monday following an incident at the 2230 Restaurant and Bar in Cronulla late on Sunday evening.

Ferguson had been at the venue drinking with New South Wales team-mate Josh Dugan.

He will front the Waverley Local Court on July 16.

"The NRL will review Ferguson's progress with the club after a four-week period and assess his eligibility at that point," the Raiders said in a statement.

"Both the NRL and the Raiders will await the outcome of court proceedings to determine a final position in relation to a charge of indecent assault laid by NSW Police yesterday."

Following confirmation of the charges, Ferguson's registration was suspended by NRL chief executive Dave Smith.

He is unavailable for State of Origin II next Wednesday and was subsequently replaced by Nathan Merritt.

Ferguson is supposedly on his final warning with the Raiders after a drinking session with Dugan earlier this year was deemed a breach of the behavioural code.

That incident saw Dugan released by the club while Ferguson was fined $10,000, suspended for one match and left with one lifeline.
