The Queanbeyan Kangaroos won their second title in the Canberra Raiders Cup in as many seasons defeating their cross town rivals the Queanbeyan Blues 20-16 at Seiffert Oval.

The Roos trailed for the majority of the match until an Andrew Hunter try with just over ten minutes remaining finally put them in the lead.
Roos captain-coach Aaron Gorrell was always confident his side could win despite trailing for most of the match.

''I knew that if we could stick with them and just keep completing and keep turning around I knew that we'd have something in the tank at the end,” said Gorrell.

''We knew we'd still be going at the 80th minute and we knew that's when it was going to count.''

The Roos had an exceptional run late in the season to get to the grand final, winning eight of their last nine matches.

This included a do-or-die victory in the last round of the regular season against Tuggeranong where a try after the fulltime siren secured their spot in the finals, and an extra-time thriller against minor premiers Belconnen United Scholars which got them to the grand final.

The Blues run into the finals was far from ideal, losing three of their last four, and playing only one match in the month preceding the grand final.

The Blues went into the halftime break leading 8-6 through tries to Mitch day and Justin Giteau for the Blues, and George Griffin for the Roos.

Ben Nicol helped extend the Blues lead early in the second half, but tries to Travis Robinson, and Nathan Nash brought the Roos back into contention.

Despite winning the match that counted, the Roos failed to beat the Blues in their two other encounters this year.
