RugbyL: Souths move closer to grand final (AFP)
« on: September 16, 2012, 12:26:01 AM »
SYDNEY, Sept 15, 2012 (AFP) - - South Sydney Rabbitohs moved a step closer to their first grand final in 41 years after they demolished the Canberra Raiders 38-16 in their National Rugby League semi-final Saturday.

Led by young halfback Adam Reynolds, Souths were always in control of a Raiders side who had been in great form leading into the clash.

Reynolds scored a try and kicked seven goals on his way to becoming only the second player in the club's history to score more than 200 points in a season.

The win sends Souths into an elimination final against Canterbury next weekend.

Andrew Everingham and Sam Burgess also scored tries in the first half to put Souths into the break leading 20-10.

The second period started in a similar fashion, with Reynolds again taking control in a superb display as he set up tries for Dylan Farrell and Everingham to end any hope of a Canberra comeback.

On Friday night, defending champions Manly Sea Eagles ended North Queensland's season with a controversial 22-12 victory.

With the scores locked at 12-12, Manly were awarded two tries by the video referee, despite some doubts over both.

"Our season hung on a couple of decisions," a furious North Queensland coach Neil Henry said.

"I am not saying they (the video referees) are biased, they are incompetent."

Manly travel to Melbourne to take on the Storm in the second elimination final.
