Roos premierships up with best: Gorrell

HE HAS played six seasons in the NRL and another two in the English Super League, but retired Queanbeyan Kangaroos captain Aaron Gorrell said back-to-back premierships in the Canberra Raiders Cup were among his finest career achievements.

Gorrell, 32, announced his immediate retirement after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament for the fourth time in his career last weekend.

Despite 60 NRL games, for St George Illawarra and the Brisbane Broncos, Gorrell said the Kangaroos' premierships in 2010 and 2011 were definite highlights.

''The club hadn't won one in a long time and there were players and supporters there who had been through some pretty tough times,'' Gorrell said.
