Canberra's new coach will have a big task ahead of him after the Raiders ended their season from hell on Sunday with a sixth straight loss, 38-18 to an understrength Cronulla.

The result in front of a paltry 7615 crowd at Canberra Stadium was a fitting way to end a season of torment for the Raiders, whose season has been marred by the sacking of star players Josh Dugan and Blake Ferguson and coach David Furner, while the Sharks booked an elimination final with the resurgent North Queensland on Saturday.

“It’s been a long year. The last couple of months have felt like a lifetime,’’ Raiders skipper Terry Campese said.
