Preview: Raiders play Sharks in last match of regular season
« on: September 08, 2013, 04:17:44 PM »
The last match of the 2013 regular season sees Canberra hosting Cronulla Sunday afternoon.

Since a player’s revolt which led to Coach David Furner being removed from his position several weeks ago, the playing roster has been left embarrassed as they’ve been nothing but poor in their last three losses since the Coach’s departure.

Each of these games carried plenty of weight as the Raiders were in a real tussle for the eighth spot however, a run now of five losses has seen the Raiders fall outside of the eight and with no hope of making the finals.

During the past three weeks, the Raiders have leaked 114 points and would imagine that their defence will not have improved significantly enough this week to stop the Sharks.

Cronulla surprised everyone when defeating the Roosters at home in round 24.

They needed to consolidate that win last week but found the resurgent Cowboys too strong and were defeated 29 – 18.

It continued a run of inconsistent results for the Sharks who haven’t won more than two in a row since May of this year.

The Sharks will finish sixth at worse, fifth should they win here and the Bulldogs lose their match.

Cronulla won 30 – 20 in round 10 when they last met and that was the fourth time in a row that the total match point score met or exceeded 40 points.

With nothing to lose and at home, Canberra can be a dangerous prospect for the Sharks and capable of scoring points quickly.
