Sore heads for Raiders and Dogs
« on: February 24, 2013, 06:18:28 PM »

BLAKE Ferguson may have slammed head-first into a metal fence, but it was Canterbury head coach Des Hasler who finished with the greater headache.

While Hasler rested stars such as fullback Ben Barba for much of the second half, the notoriously cranky coach would not have been happy with conceding four consecutive tries after leading 12-4.

Certainly Ferguson finished with a sore head, too.

Despite leaving the field in the second half with what appeared to be a busted nose, it was a collision with a metal fence that looked to have caused most concern.

Continuing on from his stellar performance with the Indigenous All Stars, Ben Barba orchestrated the first points when, after just nine minutes, he looped an overhead pass for winger Sam Perrett to cross untouched.

It took the Raiders until the 33rd minute to get on to the scoreboard, with Ferguson scooping up a cross field kick to cross.

Canterbury extended their lead by a converted try just eight minutes into the second half when Josh Morris found himself on the end of a Kris Keating cross kick.

Yet midway through the half, the Raiders hit back by replicating the same move with playmaker Josh McCrone finding Dimitri Pelo out wide.

Then with 17 minutes remaining, the Raiders drew level when hulking forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs crashed over near the posts to score.

Five minutes later the Raiders were in again, this time through colourful winger Sandor Earl.
