Joel Monaghan to be sacked over lewd picture5 November 2010, 5:00 pmThe
heraldsun.com is reporting that disgraced Canberra Raiders centre Joel Monaghan “will be sacked by the club on Monday when the eight-member Raiders board convenes in the national capital”.
The Daily Telegraph has released information that “at least” four of the club’s major sponsors have threatened to withdraw AUS$1 million worth of revenue due to the incident.
NRL chief executive David Gallop is monitoring the incident and the game’s governing body is “close to making the call to de-register Monaghan from playing rugby league in Australia” according to the website.
It’s understood that Gallop was considering re-registering Monaghan last night after the picture went viral but it’s assumed the matter will now be dealt with after the Raiders board meets on Monday when “Monaghan's contract will be torn up”, reported the
heraldsun.com.
There are also reports that a number of other of the club’s sponsors have verbally threatened to resign from association with the club.
