Michael Bani signs one-year deal with the Canberra Raiders

CANBERRA has boosted their depth in the outside backs, with the signing of former Manly and North Queensland winger Michael Bani to a one-year NRL deal.

Noted speedster Bani struggled to cement a place at the Cowboys since he joined them from the Sea Eagles in 2009 and battled injury during his time at the Townsville club, particularly last year.

The 27-year-old said the opportunity to join Canberra could reignite his career.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for my career," Bani said in a statement.

"... I'll be taking the opportunity with two hands to work my way up to first grade.

"I'm really looking forward to this season as I was unfortunate last year with injuries and the pressures of living away from my family who were based in Sydney."

Newly appointed Raiders recruitment officer David Hamilton said Bani added to the club's depth following the departure of Daniel Vidot to St George Illawarra.

"He's got speed to burn and more than enough ability to put pressure on the other players in his positions which is what we need here," Hamilton said.
