The Canberra Raiders could be drawn into another legal battle over their contractual processes, with Melbourne Storm player Dayne Weston accusing the club's management of hypocrisy and reneging on a two-year offer potentially worth in excess of $500,000.
But the Raiders have defended their negotiation process as legally sound.
"Livid" at Canberra's apparent back-flip on a draft contract he signed last November, Weston lashed out at Raiders management for what he claims is double-standards in dealing with player negotiations.
The Raiders refuse to budge on rookie Anthony Milford's request for a compassionate release, despite Milford's management threatening legal action to activate an out-clause relating to his father's health concerns.
Star centre Blake Ferguson had also been reportedly maneuvering for a release, but is now clear to leave the Raiders because he had an escape clause that could be triggered when coach David Furner was sacked.
