Stuart to stick around: Hayne says coach won't link up with the Raiders Parramatta superstar Jarryd Hayne said he believed Eels coach Ricky Stuart would finish the job he started at the besieged club despite speculation Canberra had tabled a seven-year-deal worth $7million for him to rebuild the Raiders.
Stuart, who played 203 games for Canberra between 1988 and 1998, was linked to his old club after former teammate David Furner was axed by the club's management last week. While Canberra denied any offer had been made to the former NSW Origin coach, Hayne told Fairfax Media on Tuesday he wanted Stuart to fulfil the final two years of his three-year deal at Parramatta.
''I've had [six first-grade coaches] in eight years, you just want to have the one coach for a while,'' he said.
''There's obviously been a lot of talk but I don't read too much into it. Ricky spoke to us the other day … he pulled us aside and assured us that what he started here is something he wants to keep going and he wants to finish.''
