Price breathes fire over Dragons 12-year 'hoodoo'

HE HAS labelled any suggestions of a hoodoo as a ''load of crap'', but Dragons coach Steve Price has gagged his former Raiders players from talking to the media as pressure mounts on St George Illawarra to break a 12-year losing streak in the national capital.

But former Dragons winger Wendell Sailor conceded the hoodoo was real and said the record spoke for itself - Canberra having won 12 of the past 13 games against the Dragons. Asked earlier this week about Canberra's curse on the Dragons, Price said: ''It's a load of crap. I couldn't care less about it''.

But with the Dragons one win ahead of the Raiders on the NRL ladder, Price has refused to allow the former Raiders players in his squad - Josh Miller, Daniel Vidot and Bronx Goodwin - to talk to media before tomorrow night's match.

The Dragons haven't won in Canberra since 2000.

''Everyone knows there's a hoodoo, just look at the record,'' Sailor, a dual international, said. ''I haven't had too many wins down there playing against the Raiders or the Brumbies. The boys don't talk about it much. They know they need to string a couple of wins together otherwise they're going to fall away from the top eight.''

Sailor, who spent his final two seasons in the NRL with the Dragons and is still involved with the club, has spoken to Miller and Vidot this week about what to expect when facing a former team for the first time.

''They're excited and they're respectful because the Raiders gave them an opportunity,'' Sailor said.

Miller and Vidot both left the Raiders at the end of last season, while Goodwin left Canberra in 2008.
