Dragons Coach Calls Raiders Hoodoo "A Load of Crap"
« on: July 02, 2012, 02:35:22 PM »
Can St George Illawarra break 12-year hoodoo against Canberra Raiders in Monday Night Football?

Most teams have a bogey side. For St George Illawarra, that team is Canberra.

The Dragons' struggles against the Green Machine are highlighted by the NRL's most lopsided head-to-head ledger in the past decade.

Fox Sports Stats reveal that the Dragons have not beaten the Raiders in Canberra for 12 years and have won just a single match from the past 13 meetings between the two clubs.

To put things into perspective; the last time the Dragons beat the Raiders in the nation's capital, Cathy Freeman was yet to light the Olympic torch, Brad Thorn was still a Queenslander, and Baha Men had the No.1 song in the country with Who Let The Dogs Out.

But Dragons coach Steve Price wouldn't have a bar of any talk of a "curse" or "hoodoo" ahead of Monday night's clash at Canberra Stadium.

"It's a load of crap," Price said.

"All we're worried about is what we can control and that's just playing Dragons footy. And we're confident we can do that."

At least statiscally, the Raiders this season look a very beatable match-up for their long-suffering Monday night rivals.

While the Dragons have broken the line less than any other side in 2012, they'll get their chance against a leaky Canberra outfit who concede more line-breaks (6.4 per game) than anyone in the competition.

The Dragons have struggled to find points, averaging just 14.5 per game - the worst record of any side in the NRL.

But Canberra have conceded less tries than only the Roosters and Eels - both of whom the Dragons have already beaten this season.

Neither side are travelling well. The Dragons have won just two of their past seven matches; the Raiders two of their past eight.

Both have their share of injury and Origin-related outs.

Makeshift five-eighth Josh Dugan (ankle), Trevor Thurling (shoulder) and Bronson Harrison (hamstring) join Canberra's lengthy casualty list, while St George Illawarra will be without Ben Creagh, Brett Morris and Beau Scott to Blues duties.

The Dragons have the motivation of their season on the line ... but the Raiders have their hoodoo.

Can Canberra continue their curse over the Dragons? Watch Monday Night Football from 6.30pm LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on Fox Sports 2 and 2HD to find out!
