The Canberra Raidersand Canberra Region Rugby League are sad to hear about the passing of Mark Williams, who peacefully passed away in his sleep in the early hours of this morning.

Mark, wife to Trish, and father to Tim, Tom and Raider #296 Sam Williams, passed away on Thursday 7 April after a long battle with cancer.
Mark was a well-known figure and one of the stalwarts of the Cooma Stallions rugby league club within the group 16 competition.

Cooma Stallions president David Brison shone a light on the life of Mark and the impact he had on the club.

"Mark will be missed in a number of sporting fields - cricket, tennis as well as rugby league. His efforts in supporting local juniors was second to none," Brison said.

"For the Stallions, he provided a steady head and a guiding light as well as the wealth of contacts on and off the field. A 'bloody good bloke,' and the whole town will miss his good cheer and ready smile."

Former Cooma Stallions president and current Tuggeranong Bushrangers coach Jason Kelly also mentioned the legacy of Mark and how he will be dearly missed.

"It's a tough day for everyone. A massive loss for the community. You just can't replace blokes like Mark Williams," Kelly said.

"He's a life member of the Stallions and has meant so much to so many."

CRRL General Manager Mark Vergano on behalf of the Canberra Region Rugby League, passes on his condolences to Trish and the family.

To celebrate the life of Mark, his funeral will take place at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Cooma on Tuesday 12 April, 2022, at 1pm. This will be followed by a wake, with the location to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Monaro Committee for cancer research.
