The mother of Canberra winger Sandor Earl pleaded for everyone to remember her son was a 23-year-old whose world had crumbled.
NRL chief executive David Smith announced on Thursday that Earl had been issued with an infraction notice for the use and trafficking of the peptide CJC-1295 as a result of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority's investigation into the use of banned substances. Earl denied providing banned substances to any other player.
Earl's mother, Jan, told Fairfax Media on Friday that while she accepted the public's scrutiny, she hoped people would appreciate her anguish.
''I'm just here for my son,'' a tearful Mrs Earl said. ''He's not a bad kid, he's made a mistake but what can you do? I'm his mother, a mother's love is unconditional.''
