Dogs Raid Canberra in Toyota Cup

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have claimed another top eight scalp in the Toyota Cup, outclassing the Canberra Raiders by 38 points to 10 at Canberra Stadium.

The Bulldogs sprinted out of the blocks to lead 18-4 at the break, going on with the job in the second forty to bring up their seventh win of 2011.

With blockbusting play from Lachlan Burr in the first half and Jake Finn in the second laying the platform, the Dogs skipped away to record an easy seven tries to two victory.

Tries to Sam Ahofono and Daniel Abou-Sleiman helped the visitors take a 12-nil lead by quarter match distance, before the home side countered through an unconverted try to fullback Chris Medcalf.

Ahead 12-4, some outstanding attacking play from the Dogs established them a 14-point buffer at the break.

Receiving the ball on his own 30 metre line Burr capped an outstanding half by finding space, in turn feeding Chris Centrone who raced away to score in the corner.

Aiden Sezer made short work of a difficult conversion attempt to make it 18-4 at half time.

The first 20 minutes of the second half was notably only for some stout defence from both sides, with referee Gavin West ruling held up on no less than six occasions.

Then the Raiders struck for their second, rangy winger Edrick Lee touching down for a soft four pointer which, when converted by Medcalf, made it 18-10 the way of the visitors.

Then Finn exerted his influence to swing the momentum back in the Dogs direction, first scoring himself under the posts before making a decisive break in the lead up to Abou-Sleiman’s second try.

With Sezer converting both tries, keeping his 100% record alive for the night, the Bulldogs suddenly found themselves leading 30-10.

Centrone then joined in the double act, scoring wide out to make it 34-10 with five minutes to go, and then Tim Lafai closed out proceedings with his side’s seventh try on full time, ensuring a final score of 38-10.
