Sam Williams has made an impassioned plea for the embattled City-Country fixture to be spared the axe, declaring he would be angry if it was scrapped.
Canberra Raiders youngster Williams made his representative debut for Country in its 18-12 win over City at Coffs Harbour on Sunday.
The concept's legitimacy has come under heavy fire after just 4635 people turned up, but Williams insisted the game was crucial for the health of bush rugby league.
The match is locked in as part of the game's television rights deal for the next three years and had been earmarked to be played in Broken Hill next year.
