Josh Dugan, Paul Vaughan, and Jordan Rapana tasted victory in the second round of the World Cup while Travis Robinson and Matt Walsh was not as lucky as their sides suffered defeat.

South Tuggeranong Knights junior Josh Dugan was influential in Australia’s convincing 52-6 win over France. Dugan, racked up the stats with a total of 118 running metres, one try assist while also scoring one himself.

Coming off a blitzing start to the World Cup, Lebanon could not keep that winning momentum as they lost to England 29-10. Former Queanbeyan Kangaroo Travis Robinson was once again deployed on the wing but was unable to prevent his side going down to Wayne Bennett’s side.

After losing to Ireland in their opening World Cup match, Italy were in desperate need of a win. Likewise, the USA were itching for a win after suffering defeat against the juggernaut Fijians.

At the end of the day, it was the Italians that came out on top with a comprehensive 46-0 win. Italy’s star prop Paul Vaughan, the former Gungahlin Bulls player, managed to run the ball for a whopping 159 metres and crossed the line once for a try.

There was an opportunity for three players with CRRL ties to play in this match but unfortunately Terry Campese, the Queanbeyan Blues captain-coach could not quite overcome his calf injury. Matt Walsh, the former Rugby League Record correspondent was not selected to represent the USA team.

Former Queanbeyan Blues player, Jordan Rapana, was rested for New Zealand’s match against the Scotland Bravehearts. The Kiwis piled on 14 tries as they claimed a 74-6 win.
