NYC Round 24 Match Report: Raiders V Manly - Holden Cup
« on: August 25, 2013, 02:15:41 PM »
The Canberra Raiders’ Holden Cup team has bounced back from their disastrous loss to Canterbury by scoring a solid 52-38 win over the Manly Sea Eagles.

With the Sea Eagles sitting in 16th place the Raiders were expected to make light work of men from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, however, that was not the case. The Sea Eagles made the Green Machine work hard for the win and were in fact leading the first placed Raiders 32-28 midway through the second half.

Winger Jonathon Rueben opened the scoring when he touched down in the corner after a blockbusting run from Brenko Lee. Cornish converted from the sideline, 6-0.

Manly drew level when winger Fabian Goodall scored a converted try off an intercept. The visitors then went back-to-back when five eighth Sam Short grounded a grubber that had ricocheted off the posts. Stigg converted both tries to give Manly a 12-6 lead after 13 minutes.

Lee struck back for the Raiders when crossed on the back of a dropped bomb from Manly.
