Hundreds of fans have turned up to welcome Canberra Raiders players home after the team's narrow grand final loss to the Sydney Roosters on Sunday night. Fans were invited to an event at Raiders Belconnen Club in Kippax on Tuesday to celebrate and thank the NRL team for its most successful season in 25 years. The Raiders were beaten 14-8 in front of almost 83,000 fans at ANZ Stadium on Sunday night, in a match dominated by controversial referee decisions. Early in the first half, Raiders prop Sia Soliola charged down a Sydney Roosters fifth-tackle kick, only for the ball to ricochet off the Roosters' trainer. It meant the Roosters earned a repeat set, from which the Sydney club scored the opening try of the match.
