David Furner jumps at gig to help Kangaroos
« on: September 08, 2013, 03:54:57 PM »
SACKED Raiders coach David Furner will take the first step to reviving his career by assisting former teammate Laurie Daley with the Prime Minister's XIII representative team in Papua New Guinea later this month.

Raiders prop David Shillington has also targeted the match as an opportunity to reclaim his Australian jersey for the World Cup.

Having laid low in the three weeks since his sacking, Furner has jumped at an invitation to help Daley for the Prime Minister's XIII match in Kokopo on September 29. Furner will also be assistant to national coach Tim Sheens at this year's World Cup and the pair met in Sydney last weekend, discussing the Prime Minister's XIII match as a final genuine selection trial for players not competing in the NRL finals series.

An initial Australian train-on squad will be named following this weekend's last round of the NRL regular season. The PM's XIII squad will be announced on September 17.
