Raiders Year in Review – Sam Williams

With the long off-season now upon us we’re going to take time to look at the Raiders players and see what sort of season you think they’ve had.

At the bottom of each section we’re encouraging fans to put down what they think the best moment was for each player and wish them good luck for the off-season.

Williams took his opportunity in the pre-season trials with both hands and with injury plaguing the Raiders early season, he had his first chance to play at NRL level in round one against the Cronulla Sharks at Canberra Stadium.

Showing maturity beyond his years Williams was a standout performer on that day, but had to bide his time for his second appearance of the season, in the round six loss to the Cowboys in North Queensland.

Hardly anyone expected the young halfback to play many matches at NRL level in 2011, however Williams continued to put his hand up and lead the team around the park alongside Josh McCrone going on to play 18 matches for the season.

A genuine halfback Williams will only improve with another full pre-season, as he looks to put some bulk on his slight frame. One thing is for certain this kid can play footy and he’ll be one to keep an eye out for in 2012.
