Wayne Bennett’s return is almost certain to deliver Darius Boyd back to Brisbane, who already boast Ben Barba and Josh Hoffman as top-shelf fullback options.
Making Bennett’s selection jigsaw even more complex is the fact Brisbane have also been negotiating with Hull KR custodian Greg Evans, and poached 20-year-old superstar Anthony Milford from the Raiders on a two-year deal worth $1.5 million.
The Daily Telegraph understands Boyd might have been ready to part ways with Bennett had the master coach opted to rejoin St George Illawarra, as the 27-year-old wanted to be closer to his grandmother on the Gold Coast.
Bennett’s return to Brisbane now provides the perfect fit for Boyd to continue playing under a coach who can understand and accommodate his unique needs, and be located just a short drive from his grandmother.
