Canberra centre Blake Ferguson was sounded out by Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan and star playmaker Todd Carney about a return to the Sharks before re-signing with the Raiders.
In an extraordinary about-face, given Ferguson’s spiteful exit from Cronulla three years ago, Fairfax Media understands Flanagan and Carney phoned him directly about a return to the Shire.
Ferguson resisted the Sharks’ interest by extending his deal with the Raiders on Tuesday until the end of 2015, including activating an option in his favour for the next season.
The 23-year-old walked out of the Sharks in less-than-amicable circumstances, declaring he wanted to join a club that could win a premiership.
