McIntyre Medalist vows to play on for West Belconnen
« on: October 09, 2021, 03:08:52 PM »
Veteran Les McIntyre Medalist Josh Ayers has declared he'll play against next season, after jointly winning this year's Canberra Raiders Cup top gong as a 35-year-old. Ayers starred in his first season for West Belconnen, after a short stint in Group 9 for the Young Cherrypickers in 2020 when he had committed to the Warriors, only for the club to pull out of the COVID-affected season. The West Belconnen hard man was crowned the competition's best alongside Gungahlin Bulls half Tre Holten-Williams in an online ceremony on Tuesday night. Both players finished the abandoned season with 14 votes in a tight medal race where only two votes separated the top six. And while Ayers believed he was getting a bit "long in the tooth", the popular forward said he still had plenty of miles in his legs.
