Campese to Carry Out Captain's Duties if Raiders Make Finals

Campese shoulders captain's burden

Injured Raiders skipper Terry Campese will play his role in NRL finals week if Canberra can qualify, but only to ease the pressure and travel burden on his teammates.

The NRL has excused Raiders prop David Shillington from attending the annual captains' call in Sydney on Monday morning if the Raiders can make the top eight, Canberra having raised concerns the event - primarily for media - would impact negatively on its playoff preparations.

The Raiders have opted to stay overnight in Auckland following their match against the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday afternoon, allowing them to focus on recovery before a potential tilt at the finals.

It already promises to be a busy week off the field for the Raiders next week, with some players attending the Dally M Medal function in Sydney on Tuesday night and the club's presentation evening in Canberra on Wednesday.
