When it comes to buying premierships, most teams splash out on established stars in search of a quick fix. Not Woden Valley.

The Rams have opted for a long-term investment approach this season, plundering the junior ranks of rival clubs with the enticement of game time rather than cash. In one match this season, the Rams fielded seven players under the age of 20.

''We're probably the youngest the first-grade team,'' prop Adam Kyle said.''I'm the oldest at 30.''

But secretary Steve Hicks said it was the club's shoestring budget which prompted coach Cameron Hardy to adopt a youth recruitment policy this season.

''We're one of the oldest clubs in Canberra but we're not rich because we haven't got a league club behind us,'' Hicks said.
