McCrone next in Raiders' retention spree

Josh McCrone

Star fullback Anthony Milford is still the player the Canberra Raiders hope won't get away, but the club has initiated discussions with utility Josh McCrone as coach Ricky Stuart continues his recent push for retention.

Stuart has been active in retaining Canberra's off-contract talent since taking over the job in October;  Edrick Lee, Jack Wighton, Shaun Fensom, Dane Tilse and Joel Edwards are among those who have since signed extended deals with the Raiders.

Milford is the only player who has signed elsewhere, with the Brisbane Broncos from next year, but the Raiders are increasingly optimistic he may reconsider before the round-13 deadline and remain in Canberra.

McCrone is another player off-contract at the end of this season, but it is understood Stuart began preliminary talks with the 27-year-old and his parents last weekend.
