New West Belconnen Warriors coach Justin Giteau believes John Papalii can overcome his recent off-field troubles and use the Canberra Raiders Cup to revive his rugby league career.

John Papalii, the younger brother of Josh, pleaded not guilty in January to allegations he robbed, and attempted to rob, Canberra supermarkets in December.

The 20-year-old's case continues, which could decide his availability for the Warriors.

West Belconnen hired Giteau to lead the club out of the cellar after it went winless through 14 games last season, finishing with a points differential of minus 528.
