Catalans Dragons have signed halfback Sam Williams from St George Illawarra Dragons until the end of the season.

"We were looking for another player to be able to do rotations and to create a good healthy competition in our halves."

"Sam was looking for an opportunity, he is a talented and ambitious young player, and will fit in well to our style of play." Said Laurent Frayssinous.

The former Junior Kangaroos halfback was named the Raiders’ ‘Rookie of the Year’ in 2011 and has been selected in both the NSW Country Origin and NSW Cup Residents squads respectively last year.

Williams, 23, scored 8 tries in 42 appearances with Canberra before moving to St George this season where he struggled to cement his spot as the first choice after the signing of Benji Marshall, making only 4 NRL apperances.

"We have a tough end of season with big games at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium and we are still on course to reach our objective of being qualified for the playoffs."

"Sam will boost our squad in this crucial period and he will bring his experience to our group. We are delighted to sign him." added Christophe Jouffret, Catalans Dragons CEO.
