Under-fire Queensland delays team naming
« on: June 09, 2014, 02:19:30 PM »
Injury-hit Queensland has delayed naming its team for the second State of Origin match until halftime of Monday night's NRL match between Brisbane and Canberra.

The Queensland Rugby League say they made the decision to postpone their scheduled 4pm announcement to minimise disruption to the Broncos and Raiders as they prepare for their match.

It's believed the involvement of several potential candidates in the Monday night fixture forced coach Mal Meninga to change the plan.

The injury-hit Maroons are expected to name an extended squad with several players battling injuries, including stars Billy Slater (shoulder) and Greg Inglis (ankle).

Inglis is the biggest concern with the superstar back suffering a sprained ankle during South Sydney's gutsy win over the Warriors in Perth on Saturday night.

South Sydney say there is no official update as yet on Inglis' scans results, though both he and Slater are expected to be named in the team.

Captain Cameron Smith (ankle) and halfback Daly Cherry-Evans (knee) are also under an injury cloud, though both are expected to be fit for the June 18 game two clash with NSW in Sydney.

Halfback Cooper Cronk is out of the series after breaking his arm early in game one.

Brisbane trio Justin Hodges, Corey Parker and Matt Gillett were all in Queensland's Origin I team, while dynamic forward Sam Thaiday is another Bronco likely to receive the call-up following his recovery from a calf strain.

Canberra forward Josh Papalii should be in the squad, while young fullback Anthony Milford is a strong chance to be included as cover for Slater or Inglis.
