Strong Defence Earns Toyota Cup Raiders A Great WinStrong defence lead by Jack Wighton has earned the Canberra Raiders' Toyota Cup side a round one victory against the Melbourne Storm in horror conditions this afternoon in the nation's capital.
Canberra scored first through Bradley but that was quickly answered in the 22nd minute by a Storm try to make the score 6-4 in favour of the Raiders.
The second 20 minute period would continue in the same patern with the Raiders scoring through Smith in the corner after 29 minutes.
Just as it looked like the Raiders would go in to the break with a 10-4 lead the Storm finally broke through the Raiders solid defence to score in the final minute of the first half to bring the scores level at half time.
The only try of the second half was a classic high ball catch by the tall Edrick Lee who soared above the Storm defence to take the kick and plant it down for the four points.
In a high quality game of Toyota Cup the Raiders held on with solid defence until the end to beat the storm 16-10.
